In the oil palm plantations of Bahia, Brazil, the parasitism of the be
etle Rhynchophorus palmarum by a tachinid fly, Paratheresia menezesi w
as observed. The level of parasitism over a one- year period, was 51.1
%. Furthermore, an average number of 18.33 pupas of P. menezesi was fo
und per beetle host. The potential use of the parasitoid in programs o
f integrated control of Cucurlionidae pests of palms is discussed.
