Abstract
The reaction of an aqueous solution of AlCl3, on alpha'NaV2O5 allows s eparation of V(IV) and V(V) present in the vanadium oxide bronze. V(IV ) being dissolved, the remaining powder consists of an intercalated co mpound of aluminium hydroxide in the V2O5 structure. Thermal treatment shows that this compound loses its water during a three-step process leading to a new AlV3O9 phase. This phase which occurs at 450-degrees- C decomposes at 580-degrees-C in V2O5 and AlVO4.
