The transient performance of a solar still coupled to a flat-plate sol
ar collector and operating in the thermosiphon mode is presented. Perf
ormance of the system has been evaluated considering the heat transfer
coefficient as a function of the water temperature within the still.
The effect of water depth on the performance of the proposed system is
also addressed. The study reveals that it is worthwhile to consider a
temperature dependent evaporative heat transfer coefficient when eval
uating the performance of a high-temperature solar distillation system
.
