Abstract
The Saint-Nicolas Formation (Sillery Group) of the Chaudiere nappe in southern Quebec is a succession of shale and feldspathic sandstone tha t was deposited in a deep water channel-fan environment. This formatio n, formerly regarded as unfossiliferous, has now yielded the first con firmed specimens of the trace fossil Oldhamia in Quebec. Two ichnospec ies are described, O. smithi Ruedemann and O. curvata Lindholm and Cas ey. The occurrence of the middle-upper Lower Cambrian brachiopod Botsf ordia pretiosa in the overlying Breakeyville Formation confirms that t his occurrence of Oldhamia is Lower Cambrian.
