Ai. Verneta et Bu. Somov, COMPRESSIBILITY EFFECT DURING DEVELOPMENT OF THE TEARING INSTABILITY IN A NONNEUTRAL CURRENT SHEET IN THE SOLAR ATMOSPHERE, ASTRONOM ZH, 70(3), 1993, pp. 556-562
It is shown that plasma compressibility leads to development of the te
aring instability for a reconnecting current sheet in the long-wave re
gion in which for an incompressible plasma the instability is absent.
Longitudinal magnetic field plays the role of a trigger in such proces
s of destabilization which is of principal importance for physics of f
lares and other non-steady phenomena in the solar atmosphera.
