The authors discuss seven cases of recurrent atrial septal defect (ASD
) without an inferior border which were treated by surgery. A typical
clinical picture of the anomaly with arterial hypoxemia being the lead
ing symptom was encountered in all cases. The main cause of the compli
cations was overestimation of the indications for Lewis' operation, i.
e. ASD suturation. A good clinical result was produced in all cases o
f a repeated intervention with ASD repair with a graft.
