Ya. Nesterenko et al., THE ROLE OF THE MAJOR DUODENAL PAPILLA IN PATHOLOGY OF THE ORGANS OF THE PANCREATICOBILIARY REGION, Hirurgia, (3), 1993, pp. 49-55
The condition of the major duodenal papilla and the periampullary regi
on was studied in 1,113 patients with diseases of the biliary tract an
d pancreas. In 88.6% of cases complex examination revealed various pat
hological changes which were considered to be important etiological fa
ctors of the development of the diseases. These changes were found to
be particularly significant in patients with the postcholecystectomy s
yndrome. The authors present the modern methods for correction of path
ology of the major duodenal papilla, amomng which endoscopic intervent
ions are most valuable.
