Aged adults are particularly susceptible to cardiac disease, with a hi
gh incidence of myocardial infarction (MI) and MI-related mortality. H
ow to treat them is not completely understood, because the major thera
peutic trials for MI have studied predominantly younger adults. Moreov
er, these trials have tended to exclude women and patients with comorb
idities, characteristics that are more typical of older cardiac patien
ts. Therefore, whether these trials can be applied to our aged MI pati
ents is unclear. This review analyzes data from earlier trials to bett
er delineate their implications for the elderly MI patients that we fr
equently treat.
