The relationship between the quasi-equilibrium decomposition temperatu
re T(D), the band shift DELTAnu(3A2g-->3T1g) in the electronic spectra
and the degree of tetragonal distortion (R(e)/R(a)) of the host compl
ex in the [Ni(4-Mepy)4(NCS)2] . 2G clathrates (where G is 1-methyl-, 2
-methyl-, 1-bromo-, and 2-bromonaphthalene) was studied. It was found
that with increasing T(d) the positive band shift also increases, wher
eas the degree of tetragonal distortion of the coordination polyhedra
decreases. The reasons for these differences are discussed.
