Optimechanical properties of densely cross-linked polymers on the basi
s of diallyl and divinyl monomers were studied. It was shown that the
properties are determined by the topology of the network. The topology
, in tum, depends on the structure of the monomers. A method of dividi
ng the elasticity of strained polymers into energy and entropy compone
nts was proposed that is based on the analysis of the linear temperatu
re dependence of the elastic modulus on cooling of the polymer under a
load. Such a division permits one to compare elasticities of densely
cross-linked systems using a single parameter, i.e., the conventional
number of chains in a unit volume.
