The reaction between 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane and a
twofold molar equivalent of m-dinitrobenzene in conditions of aromatic
nucleophilic nitrosubstitution was used to prepare ,2-bis-[4-(3-nitro
phenoxy)phenyl]hexafluoropropane which was subsequently reduced to 2-b
is-[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]hexafluoropropane. Polycyclocondensation
of this diamine with some dianhydrides of aromatic tetracarboxylic aci
ds in m-cresol gave polyimides characterized by high thermal stability
, good solubility in organic solvents, and comparatively low softening
points. These properties account for the improved processibility of t
he synthesized polyimides.
