An overview is given of the wide variety of current applications for p
robe permeameter technology and data in light of recent key advances i
n reservoir characterization. The future trends in applications and to
ol development are discussed. By examining the procedures and costs as
sociated with data acquisition, quality control and general informatio
n enhancement and by comparing these factors to more conventional meth
ods for obtaining permeability, it is concluded that probe permeametry
is indeed worth the effort.
