Abstract
The characteristics of hydrostatic bearings have been theoretically st udied in terms of the compressibility of the air-contained oil. A form ula for the stability criterion of a hydrostatic bearing system and a dynamic stiffness formula have been derived. The theory has been verif ied by experimental research, and provides a basis for hydrostatic bea ring design.
