Heat transfer coefficient of tetraalkoxysilanes, dimethyldialkoxysilan
es, polydimethylsiloxanes and coolanols of Monsanto Chemicals has been
calculated from Dittus-Boelter equation, Reynold's number, Prandtl nu
mber, friction factor, pressure drop are calculated and reported. Heat
transfer coefficient of some of the samples of tetraalkoxysilanes and
dimethyldialkoxysilanes are experimentally verified using double pipe
heat exchanger. Among the series of alkoxysilanes studied, dimethylal
koxysilanes possess higher heat transfer coefficients than tetraalkoxy
silanes arid comparable with that of conventional heat transfer materi
als. Heat transfer coefficients of different series of alkoxysilanes a
re compared against molecular weight, thermal conductivity and specifi
c heat. Heat transfer coefficient for all the series of compounds decr
eases with increase of molecular weight, thermal conductivity and spec
ific heat.
