Abstract
The importance of agitated ball mills in the field of ultra fine grind ing is still increasing, but there is also a lack of scientific inform ation in this field. Experimental investigations have been carried out with different size agitated ball mills (4 to 200 1) and different ma terials (limestone, hard coal, microorganisms). The specific energy in put has been found to be the most important influencing parameter on t he comminution result. A method for scale-up and prediction of power c onsumption is described. Also the mathematical and experimental invest igation of the transport behaviour in the mill allows the prediction o f comminution results during continuous operation as a function of ope rational parameters. The influence of the bead size and the definition of comminution goals is pointed out.
