A. Abourachid et S. Renous, CINEMATIC STUDY OF TURKEYS WALK - RESEARC H OF A FUNCTIONAL EXPLANATION OF BROAD-BREASTED TURKEYS LOCOMOTOR DISEASES FREQUENCY, Recueil de medecine veterinaire, 169(3), 1993, pp. 183-189
The aim of this study of the cinematic of locomotion is turkeys is to
determinate if broad-breasted turkey's locomotor diseases frequency ma
y have a functional origin. Angular variations of hind limbs segments
of light and broad-breasted strains of turkeys are graphically analyze
d and compared. In a parasagittal plane, movements amplitude of the di
stal part of the limbs are slightly reduce in broad-breasted turkeys.
On the frontal plane, lateral movements are stressed. A mechanical int
erpretation suggests that movements modifications involve an increase
of energetic cost of locomotion and may be link to locomotor diseases
frequency.
