Abstract
In this paper we are concerned with comparing umbrella pattern treatme nt effects with a control in a one-way layout. The problem of testing whether there is at least one treatment that is better than the contro l is considered. Distribution-free tests are proposed for both cases w here the peak of the umbrella is known or unknown. Approximate small-s ample critical values are presented and the results of a Monte Carlo p ower study are discussed.
