Abstract
This paper deals with the electrochemical anodic stripping of purine b
ases, such as adenine and guanine, in Cu2+ solution at glassy carbon e
lectrodes (GCE). It was found that Cu2+ was reduced to Cu+ around 0 V
vs. SCE and the generated Cu+ reacted with adenine and guanine to accu
mulate on the GCE as an insoluble compound. The base-Cu+ compound accu
mulated on the GCE was redissolved by the reoxidation of Cu+ to Cu2+ a
t ca. 0.4 V and the concentration of the base in the vicinity of the G
CE was increased, thus giving a large oxidation current for the base.
Utilizing this stripping process, the linear calibration curves of ade
nine and guanine were obtained in the range 0.5-8 AM. When the pre-ele
ctrolysis period for accumulation was 8 min, 0.2 muM guanine was detec
table by anodic stripping voltammetry.
