Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis is connected with a typical body-image, character ized by hardened and tightened psychic barriers, a so called high ''ba rrier-score''. This oral mode of body-image uses projective identifica tion as its main defensive action. The case material of an eight years psychoanalysis with a rheumatoid patient shall illustrate the develop ment and changes of the body-image in the course of the analysis.
