Abstract
A hitherto unknown alpha-ketol derivative was found in the culture bro th of the bacterium Nocardia sp. DSM 43130. It was identified as 2-(2- hydroxy-propionyl)-acetanilide by spectroscopic methods. This type of nitrogen compound is unusual and unknown from bacteria. Its biosynthes is is briefly discussed.
