An interactive HD WDM optical network called M3I NET is reported which
uses a two-electrode DFB LD as a multifunction device. This device ac
ts as an FSK transmitter at one end and as an FSK receiver/ASK transmi
tter at the other end. The selection of one optical signal out of two
was demonstrated and remote control of the transmitting information (T
V program or CD musical part) was successfully achieved.
