We present the first complete simulation of the thermal effects, due t
o light power absorption in optical components, that can occur in inte
rferometric gravitational-wave detectors and restrict their sensitivit
y. The simulation is achieved by coupling a fast optical propagation c
ode with analytical formulas for thermal aberrations (thermal lens and
thermoelastic distortions) of mirrors. Numerical results and implicat
ions for the first generations of detectors are presented.
