This review presents an update on three enzymes of thick filaments of
vertebrate striated muscles: creatine kinase (CK), AMP-deaminase, and
phosphofructokinase (PFK). Physicochemical, enzymatic, and regulatory
properties of the enzymes are described, and their localization in va
rious zones of thick filaments are defined. Functional significance of
localization of these enzymes is discussed in the framework of advanc
ed concepts concerning the role of enzyme adsorption on subcellular st
ructures in the regulation of metabolism.
