With a two-crystal vacuum spectrometer, the Rh Lbeta2,15 emission spec
trum in fluorescence from (NH4)3RhCl6 has been measured together with
that from rhodium metal. The metal spectrum consists of a single broad
band, while the (NH4)3RhCl6 spectrum is composed of a prominent peak
and its low-energy shoulder. The measured Lbeta2,15 emission spectrum
of Rh metal is compared with available X-ray photoelectron valence-ban
d spectra and theoretical X-ray Lbeta2,15 emission spectra. It is show
n that there is good agreement between them. The Rh Lbeta2,15 emission
spectrum of (NH4)3RhCl6 is presented along with the Rh L(III) absorpt
ion, Cl Kbeta emission and Cl K absorption spectra of this compound, r
eported previously. These spectra are interpreted in terms of the mole
cular orbitals of octahedral complex [RhCl6]3-.
