Abstract
A 1.9 mum Tm-doped fluoride fibre amplifier using a 1.58 mum pump sour ce is presented. A gain of 18 dB was obtained at a pump power of 62mW. An efficient 1.9 mum Tm-doped fluoride fibre laser with a 1.58 mum pu mp source is also presented. A slope efficiency of 70% was obtained.
