L. Wilgosh et Hh. Mueller, WORK SKILLS FOR DISADVANTAGED AND UNPREPARED YOUTH AND ADULTS, International journal for the advancement of counselling, 16(2), 1993, pp. 99-105
The paper considers vocational preparation and career guidance for ind
ividuals who are disadvantaged and otherwise unprepared for employment
. From the vocational counselling literature, suggestions are taken fo
r an expanded role for counsellors, and models are considered which ha
ve emphasized the need to focus on both personal and social skills as
well as work skills, in training and retraining. From the vocational r
ehabilitation literature, the importance of work skills training, and
identification of necessary skills for training are examined, with par
ticular reference to the research of Mueller (e.g., 1988) and his asso
ciates. Thus, both the vocational counselling and vocational rehabilit
ation fields provide guidance for the vocational training of disadvant
aged and unprepared youth and adults.
