U. Troger et al., SULTHIAME-ASSOCIATED MILD COMPENSATED METABOLIC-ACIDOSIS, International journal of clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, 34(12), 1996, pp. 542-545
Sulthiame is effectively used in the treatment of benign and symptomat
ic focal epilepsy in children. Hyperventilation as a symptom is a well
known adverse effect of the drug, Alterations of the acid-base equili
brium have been described for the drug, however, very infrequently onl
y in adults without a detailed evaluation of the disorders status. The
case presented here demonstrates a mild compensated metabolic acidosi
s in a child which, for the first time, is described using the methods
of complete blood gas and electrolytes analysis.
