M. Sonis et Gjd. Hewings, HIERARCHIES OF REGIONAL SUB-STRUCTURES AND THEIR MULTIPLIERS WITHIN INPUT-OUTPUT SYSTEMS - MIYAZAWA REVISITED, Hitotsubashi journal of economics, 34(1), 1993, pp. 33-44
Miyazawa, in a series of papers, provided some new insights into the f
unctioning of an economy by revealing, explicity, the important linkag
es between output and income propagation effects. The concept of an in
terrelational income multiplier has provided the basis for extensions
of this work in the field of demographic-economic modeling. In the pre
sent paper, some of Miyazawa's contributions are revisited and some ex
tensions proposed that exploit some new applications of matrix decompo
sition techniques. In particular, a finer structure for Miyazawa's con
cepts of ''internal'' and ''external'' multipliers are revealed. The f
inal section of the paper explores the decomposition approach to the M
iyazawa demo-economic framework in a multi-regional setting.
