Sj. Enna, GAMMA-AMINOBUTYRIC ACIDA RECEPTOR SUBUNITS IN THE MEDIATION OF SELECTIVE DRUG-ACTION, Current opinion in neurology and neurosurgery, 6(4), 1993, pp. 597-601
Pharmacologic and biochemical data indicate a variety of gamma-aminobu
tyric acid(A) receptor subtypes. The identification of gamma-aminobuty
ric acid(A) receptor subunits and their isoforms has yielded a more re
fined characterization of the pharmacologic selectivity of these sites
. Such structural diversity may explain the different responses noted
with drugs acting through gamma-aminobutyric acid(A) receptors and mak
es possible the design of new agents capable of selectively manipulati
ng this neurotransmitter system.
