MgO single crystals doped with iron after a reducing thermochemical tr
eatment can be used for measuring ionising and UV radiation doses with
simultaneous readout of TSL and ESR. A single maximum at 400 K is obs
erved in TSL spectra. Its intensity grows in a linear fashion with the
radiation dose from 10(-4) to 10(-4) Gy for X radiation and from 10(-
1) to 10(3) muJ.cm-2 doe UV radiation (lambda = 250 nm). Dose dependen
ce of the ESR signal intensity caused by Fe3+ ions is linear from 1 to
10(4) Gy for X irradiation. Under UV irradiation the ESR signal is re
gistered starting from doses of 2 x 10(2) muJ.cm-2. The upper level of
the measured dose exceeds 10(5) muJ.cm-2. Complete anneal of the ESR
signal is observed at 950 K. This makes it possible to use the detecto
rs when measuring irradiation doses at higher temperatures.
