SiC fibre/SiC matrix composites were fabricated by the deposition of S
iC matrix material onto an array of SiC (Nicalon) fibres using the che
mical vapour infiltration technique (CVI). Two unidirectional composit
es were prepared and the thermal diffusivities of these and of the SiC
fibres were measured over the temperature range 350-1500 K. The data
are compared and discussed in terms of the microstructural characteris
tics of the matrix material. Data for a sample sectioned at 45-degrees
to the fibre axis are also presented.
