M. Haddads et G. Amberg, ON THE FORMATION OF AMORPHOUS METAL RIBBON BY THE PLANAR FLOW MELT-SPINNING (PFMS) PROCESS, International journal of rapid solidification, 7(4), 1993, pp. 255-267
The mechanism of ribbon formation in planar flow melt spinning (PFMS)
of amorphous metal ribbons is considered. The theory of flow boundary
layer formadon has been applied to the analysis of the stationary melt
puddle of this process. It has been investigated how the specific hea
t (C(p)) and viscosity change with temperature reduction. The results
of calculations by the use of the finite difference method shows the i
nfluence of wheel velocity and heat transfer coefficient on the thickn
esses of boundary layer, displacement boundary layer and solidified la
yer at the end of the melt puddle. The theoretical predictions show go
od agreement with the experimental results.
