This paper presents the procedures followed in the preparation of and
the main superconducting properties in polycrystalline bulk YBa2Cu3Ox
samples. A method of measuring the acoustic emission from superconduct
ing ceramics is described. The acoustic emission due to the temperatur
e rise during the transition from the superconducting to the normal st
ate was recorded. Investigations were carried out for the case of curr
ent flow as well as for the non-current state. The acoustic signals ar
e connected with the occurrence of voltage drops in the sample.
