Sr. Kaniraj et H. Abdullah, ROTATIONAL STABILITY OF NARROW-CRESTED REINFORCED EMBANKMENTS ON SOFTSOILS, Geotextiles and geomembranes, 12(7), 1993, pp. 599-614
The design of reinforced embankments on soft soils is usually governed
by their rotational stability. For wide-crested embankments, the auth
ors recently developed simple solutions which can be used to determine
the critical slip circle and the maximum required reinforcement force
. However, when the failure arc intersects the side slope, as in the c
ase of narrow-crested embankments, and also for the determination of t
he maximum required reinforcement force at different points on the rei
nforcement, a trial-and-error approach is necessary. Solutions develop
ed for this type of problem are presented in this paper. The results o
btained by the present solutions and the other solutions are compared.
for four cases of embankments.
