Abstract
The gene for the beta-(1,3) exoglucanase of Candida albicans was used as a probe to detect transcripts of related genes in C. albicans and i n several other Candida species. A single homologous transcript was de tected in all of the species tested. Expression of the exoglucanase ge ne in C albicans was found to be coincident with the onset of growth a nd the levels of the transcript were proportional to the growth rate. Comparable levels of the transcript were produced during yeast and hyp hal forms of growth.
