Rm. Shrestha et Gb. Bhattarai, ELECTRICITY PLANNING WITH DEMAND-SIDE MANAGEMENT IN NEPAL - ECONOMICSAND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATIONS, Energy policy, 21(7), 1993, pp. 757-767
This paper discusses the impacts of selected residential sector demand
-side management programmes in a predominantly hydro based electric ut
ility of Nepal on the utility's capacity mix, expansion schedule and t
he environment. The economics of demand-side options are analysed from
the societal and participant perspectives. A key finding of the paper
is that some demand-side programmes can result in increased emissions
of air pollutants from power generation. The DSM options involving to
tal replacement of incandescent lamps with compact fluorescent lamps a
re found to be attractive from the societal perspective but not so fro
m participant perspectives.
