Abstract
This paper shows that the IT-183 and IT-228 lateral-shearing mirror in terferometers, operating with low-coherence light sources, have seriou s limitations in terms of speed and sensitivity. A modernization of th ese instruments has been carried out in order to eliminate these restr ictions. Laboratory and full-scale tests of the modernized interferome ters have shown that their speed and sensitivity were increased by one and by two orders of magnitude, respectively, compared with the origi nal instruments.
