S. Varghese et al., RHEOLOGICAL BEHAVIOR OF SHORT SISAL FIBER-REINFORCED NATURAL-RUBBER COMPOSITES, Plastics, rubber and composites processing and applications, 20(2), 1993, pp. 93-99
The melt rheological behaviour of acetylated sisal fibre reinforced na
tural rubber composites was studied using a capillary rheometer. The r
esults illustrate the effects of fibre concentration and shear stress/
shear rate on melt viscosity and melt elasticity of the composites. Th
e fibre undergoes severe breakdown during extrusion, and as the shear
rate increased the breakdown also increased. The melt showed pseudopla
sticity which increased with fibre loading. Incorporation of acetylate
d sisal fibre into natural rubber results in an increase in its melt v
iscosity and a decrease in its melt elasticity.
