Abstract
Pt catalysts were shown to provide principally new possibilities for f errous sulfate to be smoothly oxidized with molecular oxygen. The cata lytic reaction proceeds with a high rate and easily goes to completion even at a low concentration of Fe(II), high acidity and high ionic st rength of the reaction mixture, when attempts to carry out the process effectively by other means failed. It is concluded that more extensiv e application of catalysts with platinum group metals in inorganic red ox processes might be fruitful.
