A theoretical model is proposed for the linear voltammetric peak '1' o
f oxygen reduction in molten Li+Na carbonates, as observed on NiO mono
crystalline electrodes and described in Part 5 of this series of paper
s. The model assumes the diffusion-controlled reaction O22- + 2e- half
arrow right over half arrow left 2O2- and a finite, effective ohmic r
esistance of the electrodes. The comparison of the simulation results
and experimental data for Au and NiO electrodes confirms that the same
reaction can be attributed to the peak in both cases. The model allow
s also the ohmic resistance of the electrode to be evaluated from expe
rimental data.
