The synergic extraction of Am(III) by thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) a
nd triphenylarsine oxide (Ph3AsO) in chloroform from perchlorate mediu
m has been investigated. The effects of the different parameters affec
ting the extraction were studied and the stoichiometry of the extracte
d species was found to be Am(OH)(TTA)2Ph3AsO. The kinetics of this ext
raction has been studied using a stirred Lewis cell at ionic strength
0.1 (NaClO4). The effects of rate of stirring, concentration of HTTA,
Ph3AsO and H+ as well as temperature on the rate of extraction were st
udied.
