Abstract
Aquatic Coleoptera and Hemiptera were collected in Organ Pipe Cactus N ational Monument (ORPI), Arizona, from March, 1980 through 1995. The M onument, a Man in the Biosphere Preserve, is located in the Sonoran De sert on the border with Sonora, Mexico. Most aquatic habitats in ORPI are tinajas, scoured out basins in the bedrock of ephemeral streams in the Ajo and Bates Mountains. Quitobaquito Springs, its associated pon d, several concrete stock troughs, and Armenta Tank are the aquatic ha bitats of the valley floor. Prior to 1980 there had been no systematic collection of aquatic insects. The collection consisted of five speci es; three beetles and two bugs. By 1983 the recorded fauna consisted o f 61 species of aquatic Coleoptera and Hemiptera. To date, 42 species of aquatic Coleoptera from 5 families, and 21 species of aquatic Hemip tera from 8 families have been collected.
