Abstract
We have measured and analyzed the vibrational fine structure of the el ectronic participator decay of the 1s-1 1pi(g) state in gas-phase N2. The monochromator resolution allowed us to limit the vibrational excit ations in the excited state so that unequivocally assignable vibration al fine structure in the decay spectra could be resolved. The excitati on-emission process is shown to be well-described within the two-step Franck-Condon model, and the data represents individual decay of vibra tionally selected core excited states.
