Abstract
The growth law for spherical droplets during a first order phase trans ition is derived and shown to fulfill a variational procedure. This pe rmits the use of simple trial functions for the interfacial profiles i n calculating the critical radius, the growth rate, and the surface te nsion. Results agree with previous theories for conserved and nonconse rved order parameters.
