We report measurements of electrical conductivity, both d.c. and a.c.,
and photoconductivity for iodine doped and acid doped polydiheteroary
lenemethines. The iodine form has a d.c. conductivity of 10(-3) S/cm a
nd it is 3 to 4 orders of magnitude higher than the acid form. The iod
ine form has a stable a.c. behaviour up to 10(7) Hz showing a nearly b
and transport process whereas the acid form showed a hopping transport
system behaviour. The photoconductivity quantum yield goes from 10(-5
) % for the acid form to 1 % for the iodine form at 10 V.
