The reactivity of perfluoroalkyl iodide in the presence of a zinc-copp
er metal couple and a radical initiator in DMF, has been investigated.
This led to the formation of a mixture of N,N-dimethyl perfluoroalkyl
amide and perfluoroalkyl aldehyde. After studying the influence of dif
ferent reaction parameters, the perfluoroalkyl aldehyde formation has
been optimized to high yield (over 90%).
