Dj. Mercer et al., POLARIZATION TRANSFER IN ((P)OVER-RIGHT-ARROW, (N)OVER-RIGHT-ARROW) REACTIONS AT 318-MEV AND 494-MEV AND THE EFFECTIVE INTERACTION, Physical review letters, 71(5), 1993, pp. 684-687
The polarization transfer observable D(LL)(0-degrees) has been measure
d for H-2(p over arrow pointing right, n over arrow pointing right)2p,
C-12(p over arrow pointing right, n over arrow pointing right)N-12, a
nd C-14(p over arrow pointing right, n over arrow pointing right)N-14
reactions with beam energies of 318 and 494 MeV. The deuterium results
are in close agreement with free NN scattering constrained to the DEL
TAJ(pi) = 1+ channel. The results for the carbon targets, however, are
systematically more negative than those for deuterium, which suggests
a difference between the free and effective nucleon-nucleon interacti
ons. Such a medium modification of the spin-dependent interaction may
have important implications for interpretation of other intermediate-e
nergy scattering experiments.
