A detailed understanding of propagation impairments likely to be encou
ntered on a given path is one of the factors needed in transmission li
nk design to provide satellite service at the quality customers demand
. This paper sets the background to INTELSAT's need for propagation in
formation, gives the focus of recent INTELSAT Ku- and Ka-band measurem
ents, and provides some of the results and conclusions of these measur
ements.
