Ya. Pichugin et Om. Pokrovskii, INTEGRATION OF GROUND AND SATELLITE METEOROLOGICAL INFORMATION, Soviet journal of remote sensing, 10(6), 1993, pp. 1005-1015
A method has been developed for optimal integration of data from groun
d and satellite meteorological observations which may be used to deter
mine the number and optimal distribution of observation points for stu
dies of the field of geopotential H500 in the Northern hemisphere. An
optimal relationship between the number of ground aerological stations
and the number of 'key' regions in the Pacific Ocean in which satelli
te observations are required has been determined. The distribution of
these regions in the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic Oceans is described.
