Abstract
The paper surveys the work under way in the area of remote sensing in the science research institutes which form part of the German Aerospac e Research Centre (DLR), where the main efforts are concentrated on th e development of methods for active and passive microwave sensing. The need for deeper and better organised collaboration between Russian sc ientific establishments and the DLR is stressed.
